One of BAK's team stayed in the Kayumba chieftainship for several weeks. Thanks to the Chief Kayumba's introduction, our team was warmly welcomed by the populations. The villagers received a formation on the manufacturing of bricks made of dung and chilli that will be set on fire. Smokes filled with hot pepper are very irritating for the elephants' sense of smell which is very developed. This soft method is often enough to dissuade the elephants to approach cultures.
BAK asked teh Chief Kayumba to study the possibility of creating a community reserve in its chieftainship which would serve to manage and to protect the fauna. In return, BAK makes the commitment to find financing to favour the social development of the chieftainship's populations. |
